Rain
I have been thinking about tomatoes all the time.
When I wake up, I go to young tomatoes to see how they are going, and water. When I am working at master, I ask about tomatoes to him a lot. And when I come back home, I go to tomatoes to see how they are going and check the temperature and the moisture of soil and close the plastic cover and put blankets on it.
So that when I was with people from UK soil association, I off course talk about tomatoes.
One of them told me its giant specie. It becomes 500g.
I like to try.

イギリス人は上品
晴れ
英国土壌協会の2人が家に泊まった。家は寒いし、古いし、何にも無いので、せめて日本らしいものをと思い、妻がかなり頑張って朝ごはんを作った。
それがツボだったようで写真を撮るほど喜んでくれた。ホッとした。
天気のいい朝だったので暖かいものを飲みながら家の縁側を楽しんでもらった。
今日は兵有研の総会がありその後の懇親会に彼らと参加するので車で長田に向かう。
土壌協会の人にとって総会は全く関係ないので、総会の間、彼らと長田の商店街を散歩した。その間にたこ焼きを食べたり鉄人28号の下で写真を撮ったりして仲良くなれた。
日本では見たことのない直径10cm以上のトマトの種を送ってもらうことになった。
昨日打合せをしておいたお陰で彼らが活動を紹介する際の通訳はうまく行った。
懇親会の後彼らとは別れたが、色々情報交換の約束をした。
例えば、日本にはない除草機を紹介してもらうとか、イギリスにはない日本の播種機の情報を送るとかだ。
とても付き合いやすい人たちだった。気遣いができて、思慮深く、空気が読めて、なんといっても上品だ。

Soil association

Picking up people from Soil association at Iso sta at 10. We are going to have Tamba organic tour.
In the morning, we visited a milk factory and a dairy farm in Hikami town.
One of the guests introduced his farm with photos. He gives the organic feeds which is produced in his large land to his livestock. I learned a new thing from him. As same as plants does not like the same land, livestock needs the new land for a certain years from the point of view of parasitic worms.
At night, we had a dinner together at master's place.

Air port
Fine
Master left for Kansai air port to meet his guests from UK. 5 people from Soil Association come to Japan to see how we work for organic agriculture. Master and others visited them in last Sep, so that this time is their turn to come.
I think the air port is the special place. As we are able to through away all we have and are able to have something new, something exciting by leaving the country. Air port is the starting point.

ネズミ駆除
晴れ
とうとうネズミを叩き出した。
去年の5月の入居時から我が家にはネズミが住みついていた。住んでるだけなら問題ないのだが、夜中に天井をバタバタ走り回ったり、いたるところに糞を残したり、壁・布をかじるので、夏くらいから追い出しにかかった。
罠で捕えて水没させるのは惨いし、鼠殺剤では家のどこかで血を流して死ぬことになるので、効率は良いのだが妻に猛反対された。
なのでネズミの嫌がるミントの臭いのする忌避材をネズミの通り道に設置した。しかしその上に糞をしたりして全く効果がない。
次に超音波忌避装置を設置した。これは人には聞こえにくく鼠に聞こえる波長の音を大音量で出す装置だ。これは効果があった。数が減ったように思うが、完全には出て行かない。
アオダイショウを捕まえて天井裏に放った。これも効果があった。これでほとんどいなくなったような感じだったが、寒くなると蛇は冬眠するのでその頃からネズミの活動が基に戻ってしまった。
猫もいいらしいが、動物は好きだけどペットは持ちたくないので考えなかった。
一番効果があったのが罠だった。僕は粘着タイプを選んだ。
長く奴らとやりあっていると奴らの導線が見えてくる。そこに仕掛けると効果はいいようだ。結局この方法で最後まで居座っていた3匹を捕獲して家からネズミがいなくなった。
１．超音波装置を天井裏に仕掛けネズミの集中力を散漫にする。
２．導線にサツマイモ、ご飯等餌を仕掛ける。
３．餌を食べ始めたら、餌の下に粘着シートを設置する。
※ 田舎に住んでる人は、稲刈りの時期には田んぼから家に移動してくるので家に住み付かれないよう超音波装置で防御する。
この方法で7ヶ月かかったがネズミを完全に叩き出した。

Shipment for tasting

In the morning, wife and I went to the test farm for A company, to take 60 packs of spinach for sending to A company for tasting. They taste to report me which is the best. I will ask them to see appearance, texture and taste.
After making 60 packs, we still have enough spinach. Then we decided to ship the rest out to our direct sale shop, as on every Wednesday its truck goes to a major department store in Osaka.
Our direct sale shop goes city every day. Every day of the week has different destination. Usually it takes 20% as a commission. But for the department store day, it becomes 40%. Shop takes 20% and the department store takes 20%. That is too much.

Good by tunnel

As it is getting warmer, wife and I removed the tunnels on the field. In these 2.5months, we had a lot of memories of painful works for them. Because of wind or snow, we had to reset them over and over again. Good thing is that these equipments are supplied by A company. Now these equipments are mine.

播種用土
晴れ
最近鹿がうちの畑に良く入るので鹿ネットを強化した。
家に帰ってトラクターのオイル・オイルフィルター・燃料フィルターを交換した。
播種用の土に欠かせない、籾殻くん炭、が届いたので土を作った。
・ 籾殻くん炭
・ バーク堆肥
・ バッドグアノ
・ ぼかし
・ キーゼライト
かなり慎重に篩にかけたので、フカフカで発芽の邪魔にならず、吸水性の良い土ができたと思う。
種の含水を始めた。
今回の失敗の原因の中に水不足が考えられる。その間接的な理由を見つけた。土の上に保温保湿のために撒いたモミガラが水が土に届くのを遮断していたようだ。原因が分かるのはすばらしい。
失敗を早いうちにたくさんする、これが成功の鍵だと思う。

Test farm

A company visited my farm, as I had worked for testing the ability of its bio liquid fertiliser for these 3 months. The purpose is to find out if it can be used as nitrogenous fertiliser as same as other nitrogenous fertiliser.
I divided 0.5a into 3 sections like A, B and C. For section A I put bio liquid fertiliser as base fertiliser. And for B I put it as additional fertiliser. And for C a kind of nitrogenous
nitrogenous fertiliser which we can buy in the market.
Off course I got paid for it.
At the farm I showed them how I started and how I maintain, and took tested harvests for visitors. They will report how it taste.
And we moved to my house, and I showed all data which I took during test. I think they liked how I had worked.

やりなおし
トマトの先生に今の状況をメールで説明して今後どうしたら良いか聞いてみた。かなり納得の答えをもらった。
昨日の昼の高温による障害より、夜間温度が低すぎたために苗が弱っているようだ。トマトの本には書いてないようなことを詳しく教えてもらった。
どうやら一回目の苗作りはスタートから2週間で失敗に終わったようだ。
今回の結果は 播種数－発芽数－生き残り数 の順で
CF桃太郎ファイト 67-41-30
サターン 54-29-18
フルティカ 66-52-44
メニーナ 69-55-34
ティオクック 74-66-30
サンマルツァーノ 72-55-26
平均発芽率45％で、メーカーが謳っている数字に程遠い。
すぐやり直そうと思う。
今回の敗因は
・ 朝与える水が少なかった
・ 夜間の保温ができていなかった
・ 日中高温にさらした
・ 播種用の土がいい加減だった
・ 播種から発芽まで適温確保できていなかった
次はこれらすべてを改善する。

Never too carefull

Very cold at 7 in the morning, -1 degree. But it becomes about 10 degree at 11 as it was very shiny. It made the temperature in the green house for young tomato over 30 degree. Wife removed its plastic film and made a shade to cool it down. Because of her work, young tomato was saved. But the solution was a bit late, so that a part of them are injured, looked like dry up.
I hope they recover soon.
I learned I can not eyes off for growing young plant.

ヒーターマット

こないだ買った苗用のヒーターマットのサイズに合わせて苗床の大きさを変更する。作業の間は発芽した苗をヒーターから降ろすので手早く作業を終わらせたい。1時間で済ませた。
最初発芽が揃わず心配していた苗だけど、ここ数日で80％以上の発芽率に揃ってきて一安心している。やり直しはしなくていいようだ。
それもヒーターマットのお陰だ。
温度センサーがついていて、センサーを土に突っ込む。そして温度調節ダイヤルを必要な温度にあわせておく。ヒーターをオン・オフしながら設定温度を保ってくれる。僕は25度に設定している。
夜は気温が下がりすぎる事があるのでトンネルの上に毛布をかけている。
翌朝、毛布を外し光を当てて、乾いているところに霧吹きで水をやる。
手間がかかるが育苗は楽しい。

Active parson
Snow
People concerned about agriculture are unique, and changes a lot before and after.
Unique because all of farmers or one who likes to be a farmer know that it is not easy to live as a farmer comparing to live in the city. But they still like to be a farmer. Life as a farmer is simple. But I guess it is complicated to be an active parson, who is not a farmer. I mean it is difficult to be an good active person. As far as I know, it is necessary for a good active people to touch the soil like a farmer constantly, otherwise they won't know what is going on. However, not so many does so.
Then they will loose the good will which they had before they enter the agriculture society.
Come to my farm if you like to be a good active parson.

大分の巨人
大分の巨人が丹波市に来る。
農業を志す者なら誰もが知っている赤峰勝人さんの公演が丹波の森公苑である。話の内容は彼の著書と同じ感じだったが、あの人が目の前で話していると思うのがうれしかった。僕の持っている彼の著書、ニンジンから宇宙へ、循環農法、にサインをもらい写真まで一緒に撮ってもらった。
ニンジンから宇宙へ、は僕が最初に読んだ農業書だ。その前に農業をしようとは思っていたが、読んで間違いなくいい仕事だと決意を固めた。
夜は懇親会があった。
間近で見る赤峰さんは普通のおっちゃんだった。でも頭脳は宇宙と繋がっている。
会えると思っていなかった人に会えてうれしかった。
ニンジンから宇宙へ、読んでください。農業興味ない人でも面白いです。

Subsoiler

Cold came back.
Mr.Earthworm recommended me to make drainage by subsoiler before building a green house. Then I asked Mr.T. And he pleasantly rented it to me.
I drove to him by my tractor, and changed the rear attachment from rotary to subsoiler. He helped, as it was first time for me, and told me how to maintenance the tractor.
Afternoon, Mr.Earthworm delivered his bark compost.
I chose his bark compost, because it has large C/N rate, and he does not use any chemicals to fermentation.
Cold came back.

呑まずに呑む
晴れ
久しぶりに大阪に向かう。
朝から少し雪が降って大阪市内にも5cm積もったそうだ。それで阪神高速は前線通行止めになりそのお陰で一般道はどこも渋滞。三宮から大阪まで4時間かかった。5cmの雪で都会の道路はパニックを起こす。
大阪に帰るといつもすることがある。
餃子を食べて、CDを漁る。今日もそうした。その後Takeちゃんと合流する。時間があったんだから二人でスタジオに入ればよかった。
何度か行ったことのある立ち飲みやに行った。酒を呑まないようになってから初めて誰かと呑みに行く。ツレが楽しめるかどうか心配だったが、相手がトークの腕のあるTakeちゃんなので、呑まずに呑んだ感じで楽しむことができた。
Sethの誕生会に呼ばれていたがタイミングが合わず行けなかった。悪いことをしたな。ごめんね。Happy birthday, Seth.

Heating mat
Heating mat for young plant which I bought through internet arrived. It was already dark, but there is no choice except to set it in the green house, as I will be away from home tomorrow.
It has a thermo sensor which can be sticked in the soil to see the temperature. And I set the thermo dial on 25 degrees, as tomato seeds need this much warm for germination.
I seeded 8kinds of tomato. At the best specie, 80% are germinated, and worst specie, 20% are. I hope this heating mat makes this situation better.
For the case, I ordered another sets of tomato seeds.

Soil analysing

In these days, I spent time for soil analysing. The result is going to be the base data, and according to it, the fertiliser is planed.
According to the text book, tomato needs 10kg of nitrogen per 1000㎡. 7kg of it is as base fertiliser, and the other 3kg is as additional fertiliser. And it needs also, calcium, magnesium and potassium as 7:2:1, and 50% of calcium and magnesium should be soluble.
For nitrogen of base fertiliser, I am thinking about bark compost.
It is fun, at the same time it is not easy to save the cost.

日本とは何か

師匠に教えてもらって昨日から読み始めた本が面白い。
”日本とは何か”というタイトルの本で、最初の数ページで本の世界に吸い込まれる。
例えば、もうすぐ来る2月11日は建国記念日だが、この日は神武天皇が即位した日という架空の日がそう定められている。そこから、日本という呼び方がいつどのように始まったかを文部省が教えようとしないのは、建国記念日の虚偽性を明らかにすることを避けるためとも取れる、とか切り口が左翼的で体制が隠そうとするものに切り込んでいく内容だ。
縄文時代の日本を取り巻く国々との関係、日本の圧倒的多数の百姓がどのように生きてきたか、など本当のことを書こうとしている本だと思う。
皆さんにお薦めしたいです。

MOA again

I have been clean for 3 weeks. I mean I have not smoked for 8month, and have not drunk for 3 weeks. I have just taken coffee.
It has made me a hard worker, I think.
Kosuke who has been learned in a organic farm in Kato-city, came to me. And we visited MOA in next town.

It has been a while to work in my farm. Thick snow has gone, as it has been warm this week.
Leafy vegetables have grown up more than I have expected. They will be big enough in another one month.
Before dusk, going to bamboo grove in a village. I need them as a prop for tomato. I need 500 of them, as I am planning to plant 500 stocks of tomato. Today, in one hour I could get only 25 of them. Long distance to go.

40th birthday
Fine
I am glad to celebrate my 40th birthday as I am today.
I have been in the best condition, physically and mentally since I became a farmer. I am satisfied. I like to thank to something great.
According to Japanese biorhythm calendar, my coming 3 years are unlucky. What I have seems to be different from unlucky but it is still not easy things. Now I have two matters to be fixed. First is to be an independent farmer. And second is to be a father.
I believe that if I stand straight to them and I want to make them true seriously, they are already in my hand.
