Even soil is frozen.
So that it was not easy to pick up the carrots.
In winter time here, plant does not grow up, it just keeps its life clinging to frozen soil. From the point of view of farmer, we have to plant lots of vegetables until November as many as possible for the shipment between Dec and Mar. And Winter time, we keep our lives taking these stocks. This is the way for farmers here to survive in winter.

Seeding
I think February is Spring. It is still hot, but the atmosphere is surely getting bright like Spring.
I have 3 important missions today.
First one is bringing back a truck of firewood and cut them.
Second, taking the ordered door of wife's car for replacement.
Third is, this is the most important, planting seeds of tomatoes.
The day before yesterday, I put them in the water to let them became water friendly. And last night I put them out of water to dry. Now it is time to plant them into the plug pot. And giving them enough water and put them on the seedbed in the green house to keep them warm.

レインコート
こないだ出荷したキャベツに”雪キャベツ”と名前をつけてポップを作ったらすぐ完売した。今日はその調子で白菜を出荷する。
午前中にサッサと収穫を済ませた。
午後は三宮で過ごす。
三宮をウロウロしていると某スポーツ店でセールをしていた。North Faceのレディースレインコートが16,000円で出ている。定価が23,000円なので3割引だ。その上メチャクチャかわいい。妻も気に入っている。
彼女がモノを見た瞬間に欲しそうな態度をするのはとても珍しいので買おうと思う。が、面白そうだから値切ってみようとも思う。
まず、身なりを貧乏臭く整える。さっき買い物した時にもらったレジ袋をいかにも常用のカバンといして使っているような感じ、一度クシャクシャにして伸ばして、手首にフィットさせて持ちなれている感じにする。
次に、少々の値引きを自分の裁量で決めることのできそうなしっかりした店員を探す。
そして、スイマセン、と心をこめて言いながら平身低頭で近づいて、「14,000円にしてもらえるなら現金で払います。」と申し訳なさそうに言う。
店員が15,000円ではどうか言うので、財布に14,000円しか入っていないと返す。
こうして、セールのものを更に2,000円引きで買った。
店員は、ニコリともせず、ありがとうとも言わず、怪訝そうな顔で僕を見続けていた。
僕は値切りゲームを楽しみ、妻はかわいいレインコートを手に入れた。

Tomato
Tomato seeds which I ordered through internet are arriving to me. It was not easy for me to choose the species. After serious considering, I reached a certain conclusion. I chose 2 species of ordinal sizes, and 2 species of midi sizes, 2 species of cooking type and 3 species of mini sizes.
And I ordered a set of green house too. It is going to be build in the end of Feb.

回転すし
曇り
自分が日本人だと日本や日本人のおかしいところがよく気になるが、もちろんこの国にはいいところもたくさんある。
温暖な島国の日本では昔から諸外国に比べて生きるために争うことは少ない。
寒いと冬を乗り切るために略奪を考えるし、国境があると戦争が絶えない。その条件が日本には無いんだから、日本人の奥ゆかしい争いを好まない性格は気象・地理条件によって作られたといってもいい。
その性格が、大事な場面でも言いたいことがいえない引っ込み思案という弱点になり、国際舞台では致命的なデメリットになる。
いま日本がTPP参加を考えてるのって自国の意思じゃないでしょ、明らかに。メリット無いもの。誰かに強引に動かされてるんだよ。それを自分の政策としてしゃべってる政治家もストレスフルだろうね。
でもこんな住み易い国は他にあるんだろうか？
人に迷惑かけちゃいけないと思うので時間は正確、約束には誠実だから、与えられた仕事は少々自分を犠牲にしても一生懸命やり通す。
自動販売機や高級車は外にあってもほとんど犯罪にさらされない。
それに外国人や異文化に対しての差別心はほとんど無いだろ。
今日回転すしを食べながら、このシステムがあの国にあったら、すしの乗ってない皿だらけになるだろうな、と考えてた。

TPP

Driving to Umeda, as I need to join a meeting of study. Today we study about TPP and agriculture.
Present Japanese government has been thinking about to join to TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership). I want to know who made our government to this direction. I think it should not be discussed without following 2 solutions at least, from my point of view as a farmer.
First, we have to fix the exchange rate matter. Present strong yen rate is a huge negative factor for Japan, as it is an exporting country. I think it should be at least about Yen100/$1.
Second, government has to make a subsidy for vegetable farmers. (It is unfair, but only rice farmers are protected somehow.) As joining TPP, farm products will be imported from low cost countries, and they surely take the place of domestic products in the market.
The present government needs to show solutions about these matters, first.

地元の親切
曇り
壊した車のドアを直すために、このブログにもリンクしてもらっている地元農家のR君に相談してみた。すると車で行けそうな解体屋を数件友達から聞いて教えてくれた。こと解体屋となるとネット検索では探しにくいのでこういう地元情報はとても助かる。R君には何の得にもならないのにありがたい話だ。彼の場合一事が万事こういう感じで人に親切なんだと思う。
田舎に引っ越す場合、”田舎暮らしを始めよう”的な本にはよく書いてあるんだけど、まともにやってこうとすると地元の人の親切が必要不可欠だ。
思いつくだけでも結構ある。
風呂焚きの薪をもらう。育苗トレーをもらう。支柱に使う竹を切らせてもらう。籾殻をもらう。畑を貸してもらう。特殊な作物の農法を教えてもらう。などなど、お金では買えないものが多い。

Car crush
Cloudy
Mate, last night I crushed a door of wife's car seriously. It does not close properly.
Then, this morning I asked how I should do to Bondi brothers in Gifu who run car shop, and they that there is no way except to change the door. It will cost roughly 40,000yen. Life is hard, mate. Good thing is, when I crushed, I did not damage anyone nor anything.

新年会
曇り
AMの内に育苗ハウスの内装を整える。長さ180、奥行き70cm、高さ20cmの箱を造り、そこに籾殻を敷く。その箱を二段に積んだパレットの上に置く。そうして寒さから遠ざける。師匠の育苗ハウスでされていることをそっくり真似しているのです。去年の夏、育苗ハウスを色々手作り・改良してみたけれど、どれもうまくいかなかった。それで少しお金を出して育苗ハウスを手に入れた訳だ。
夜はブルーベリー農家のF谷さんの家で新年会がありホルモン鍋をする。こないだ鶴橋で買ったホルモンを持って参加する。
F谷さんご夫婦は、先輩農家に対して言うのも変だけど、よくできた人たちで、力を合わせて頑張ってる、っていう感じがすごく伝わってくる。新規就農者の中では個性がはっきりしていて、存在感がある。人に好かれるいい空気が漂っている。
新年会は自分では集めることのできない意外なメンバーだったし、普段は聞けない農家の現実を聞けたりして面白かった。

Tunnels in open field

Today too, wife and I fixed tunnels on furrows in our farm. A part of them were crushed because of the weight of snow, again. I can not count how many times we fixed them. It is sometimes blown off, and sometimes crushed by snow.
Actually it is difficult not only to keep its shape, but also to water inside of tunnel.
In my case, I use thin water tube. I chose it because of its cast. But it does not stay on furrow after setting, because it is also blown off or twisted. In these case, it is necessary to reset it, before to start water.
I want to say that it is not easy to handle tunnels in an open field.

ベランダオーガニック
晴れ
ベランダオーガニックという有機農業の運動がある。自宅のちょっとしたスペースで野菜を育てて、有機農業を身近に感じてもらおうというものだ。
先輩農家が時々ある消費者団体に頼まれて、野菜つくりの講師をしているらしい。
それをもっと派手にやりたい。
ディアゴスティーニ（DeAgostini)みたいに、数回に分けて栽培キットが届くようにして、土つくり、種蒔→苗つくり、定植、誘引・剪定、追肥、収穫、調理、まで簡易体験できるようなのはどうかな。
メチャクチャ甘いフルーツトマトとか、ベビーリーフセットとか、西洋系のハーブセット、など品種の魅力も絶対条件だと思うが。
できればご意見お聞かせください。

Snow cabbage

Wife and I took master's broccoli for dinner. It was yummy to death.
I felt its sweetness when I put it on the tip of my tongue.
It is said that the vegetable which came under snow is yummy. For example, cabbage is a typical under snow vegetable.
Its mechanism is like following, if you like to know, mate.
Under snow vegetable has a high sugar content. Vegetables make the sugar to prevent from frozen. Because sugar causes a freezing-point depression, so that it is difficult to froze what contents sugar, comparing to only water.
In this case, the kind of sugar is glucose. It is consisted by carbohydrate which is created by photosynthesis. Carbohydrate is usually spent for creating the new cells. So that, in the freezing temperature, vegetables stop to create new cell, and create glucose to protect itself from being frozen.

Something Great
天気がよく暖かいので雪がどんどん溶けて行く。
こないだ食べた鹿にとり憑かれたような気がする。気が重い。念のために塩を全身に降りかけてみた。すると、気のせいだと思うが、楽になった。
今まで気にしなかった Something Great とのやり取りが始まっているんだと思う。
猟友会の人たちはかなりの数の鹿を殺めてるはずだが元気そうだった。それ以上の何か、強い生命力を持ってるような気がした。
育苗ハウスの中にイチゴの苗を植えた。

4WD
Fine to snow
Mate, it is exciting to drive in the snow. Especially, my truck has got 2 of 4WD modes, low mode and high mode. Low mode gives same torque to each wheel by locking the differential gear, so that it is suitable for getting out of dart load. And high mode is suitable for 4WD drive, as differential gear is not locked. These mode are changed by a lever. It changes 2WD, 4WD H, 4WD L.
I mean, thick snow is the best condition to test these functions. It's fun.
Masters house is located in the next village, so that there are path, street and road to there. There is deeper snow on the path. 4WD low mode gives safety drive, as it does not slip much. But safety enough is not fun. It is fun to change the drive mode according to snow.

大雪
起きたら雪が30cm積もってる。寒いはずだ。
昨日建てた育苗用のハウスが壊されてないといいけど。妻が僕が起きる前に雪かきをしてくれたので大丈夫そうだった。雪だらけになって妻が土間から上がってきた。
これだけ積もると寒さ通り越して楽しい。雪のせいにして、昼からワインとピザでだらだら過ごそうということになった。こういうダラダラする事についてはすぐ合意する。
それで買い物に出るんだけど、国道に出ても雪のお陰でみんなゆっくり走ってる。ホームセンターに寄ったらいつものお姉さんが、こんなに雪が降るのはめったにないです、と言う。
ホントかよ。こないだからどんどんひどくなって行ってるけどな。
出たついでに畑を見に行った。雪で滑りながらで大変だったけど、ドイツの冬に比べると全然走りやすい。ドイツは雪は少ないけど、もっと寒いので氷が多い。氷は滑りすぎるので止まれない事が多いし危ない。その点、雪はグリップがあるので、ある程度滑らせながら進んでいくことができる。
家に帰っても何かと働いて、ワインとピザにたどり着いたのは早めの夕食時だった。

Deer 3
7am, master rang me up and he said, a deer was caught by animal net at my farm and it struggled to escape and closed the road. Then police came to stop it. Mate, in country side, police have to work for animals. It made me who was still in bed laugh.
I rushed to the farm. When I reached was when police and hunters were leaving. The hunters were same persons whom I met yesterday.
Deer that have attacked my farm died.
In these 3days I have worked for deer. I do not think it is an accident.
I had fresh venison for dinner.

鹿 2
師匠の畑の一部は山の麓にある。そこの上何段かは放棄地なので、動物の被害が多い。昨日のニンジンに続いて、ここではキャベツが根こそぎ食べられている。できることは、動物よけネットをしっかり張りなおすことだけだ。
午前中の作業が終わろうとする頃、外の畑のネットに鹿がつかまって暴れているという連絡が入った。そういう場合、市役所に連絡して、鹿を処分してもらうことになっている。
畑では角がまだ10センチもない雄鹿がネットに短い角を絡ませて大暴れしていた。昨晩から逃れようと暴れているはずなのにまだ暴れ続けている。
見ていると、市役所の人が来て、猟友会の人が来た。
猟友会の人はナイフと木の棒を持って鹿に近づいていく。棒で鹿の後頭部を殴ると鹿は気絶するように倒れこんだ。そこを刃渡り30cmほどのナイフで心臓を一突きする。鮮やかだった。
ここに来て、動物の死をたくさん見るようになった。どういう理由があるにせよ、殺すだけというのはおかしいので、できる限り食べることにしたい。それを猟友会の人に話すと、さばいてやるからついて来いという。
誰も来ないような雪の残る山奥の道の行き止まりまで来た。その奥にこうして殺した鹿を捨てる穴があるそうだ。その手前で鹿をさばく。手際が良かった。30分ほどで4本の脚と、背肉2本、心臓1個が切り取られた。

Masters farm has been attacked by deer. They bite carrots. 30kg of them were damaged. Deer do not eat whole one carrot. They just give one bite to each of them.
Animals first came to farm for scout if the farm is safe. And next night, it comes by itself and eat a little bit, and next it comes again and eat 10times, and next it invites its friends, and the farm become their feeding area. And it is too late to keep them out. All we can do is kill them.

純正オイル
晴れ
兵庫県立農業大学校の講習に行く。月に一回兵庫県下の生産者向けに無料講習をしている。テーマは毎回変わる。土壌分析、のときもあれば今回のように果菜・葉菜の土作り、という時もある。師匠に時間をもらい2時間かけて現地に着いた。のだが、始まって1時間で、これは自分のタイプの話ではないな、と思い、すぐに出てきた。
帰って自家用車のオイルとオイルエレメントを交換した。前回は一番安いオイルを使ったお陰で燃費は15％ほど下がり、ギアチェンジのショックが大きくなった。今回は日産の純正オイルを入れた。調子がいい。燃費はまだ分からないが、ギアチェンジ、エンジンの回転の上下、が滑らかになった。
オイルは最低でも純正のものを使うのがいいみたいだ。

Visiting green house builder to ask a quotation. My specification is 6M x 30M size, stable enough with thick posts, wide slide doors on both edges, roll up side wall, no fan no heater.
Materials will cost about 500,000yen, and building charge will cost about 200,000yen. I like to build it by myself, as it is fun and it saves the cost.

Ebisu Fes
Fine
Wife left home for a clinic in Sannomiya early morning. So that I spent the day time by myself for the first time in a long time.
Driving to Fukuchiyama to get 20M speaker cable. I gotta set up the surround speakers in the living room. This kind of work makes me excited, mate.
Back in home, before speaker, I changed the engine oil of my truck.
Well, cable work finished in half an hour. And I tested how it works. Perfect, mate. For a while I watched Peppers live DVD.
At night, wife came home, and she invite me to local shrine for Ebisu fes. Unexpectedly, it was illusory and nice.

ギターレッスン
晴れ
今日は、師匠の長男R君にギターを教える。師匠の長男は高１で芸術家肌だ。経験上、男子は一度はギターを触るわけだから早めのほうがいい。
家に着くと、待っていてくれたようで、すぐに２階からギターを持って階段を駆け下りて来た。そのギターは師匠のクラシックギターで年末に僕が弦を張り替えておいた。だいたいどこの家でも両親のどちらかのギターがあるもんだ。
僕の場合は母親が使っていたクラシックギターがあったのでそれがはじめてのギターだ。高1だった。弾ける曲が増えるに連れ他のギターが欲しくなる。僕は初めてクラシックギターを触った半年後にはバイトしてフォークギターとエレキギターを買った。それ以降、何本かのギターを手に入れたり手放したりで、結局手元には、エレキギター３本と、フォークギター１本がある。ギターの話はここまで、又今度にしよう。
ギターを一緒に弾く場合共通で好きなミュージシャンがいると話が進みやすい。R君とは長渕ファンという共通点があった。ギターに触るのが全く初めて見たいなので、ギターコード表をプリントして持って来た。課題曲は、R君のリクエストでもあって、とんぼ、にした。コードを４つ覚えればいい。
コード４つとは言え、すぐにそこには行けない。まず、弦のはじき方、チューニング、ストロークの練習をしてからコードを押さえ始める。押さえるだけで精一杯でコードを変えるなんて至難の業のようだ。何時間かやっているうちにコード３つを使ってイントロの半分までが音楽らしくなっていた。まず１曲完成してもらいたい。
今日は、師匠の長男R君にギターを教える。師匠の長男は高１で芸術家肌だ。経験上、男子は一度はギターを触るわけだから早めのほうがいい。
家に着くと、待っていてくれたようで、すぐに２階からギターを持って階段を駆け下りて来た。そのギターは師匠のクラシックギターで年末に僕が弦を張り替えておいた。だいたいどこの家でも両親のどちらかのギターがあるもんだ。
僕の場合は母親が使っていたクラシックギターがあったのでそれがはじめてのギターだ。高1だった。弾ける曲が増えるに連れ他のギターが欲しくなる。僕は初めてクラシックギターを触った半年後にはバイトしてフォークギターとエレキギターを買った。それ以降、何本かのギターを手に入れたり手放したりで、結局手元には、エレキギター３本と、フォークギター１本がある。ギターの話はここまで、又今度にしよう。

Fertiliser
SnowMate, I did not expected this much of snow even in winter here. Now I see a thick snow carpet on my field. Of course it's cold. Cold enough for all not to grow. And I can not do anything in the field either. Well, I gotta make a fertiliser, today. It is called, in Japanese, Bokashi. It means it ferments more than the compost. So that it effects quickly. And it is used as an additional fertiliser. Its recipe is as follows. Rice bran 15kg, Soy bean grounds after oil squeeze 20kg, Chicken dung 60kg, EM(Effective Micro-organic) 100cc, Treacle 100cc, Water 10L, mix them all and pack them in the plastic bags and let them ferment for 1month. Easy isn't it? Please try when you have nothing to do because of snow.

土壌分析
雨→霙→雪今、土壌分析をしている。
A、B、C、と名づけた圃場から採取した土から成分を抽出している。
抽出された液と15種類の試験薬を使って、圃場の土の化学性、特に各成分の量、を調べることができる。検出されるのは、アンモニア態窒素、硝酸態窒素、リン酸、カリウム、カルシウム、マグネシウム、鉄、マンガン、それからPh。検出された成分の量から施肥設計をする。各成分が大きく不足、過剰にならないように、必要なモノを必要なだけ投入する。
このやり方だと、僕のような素人でも土の状態の一部が分かる。
僕はこの作業が大好きだ。
試験管や試薬、実験に使う種々の道具に囲まれるのが楽しいんだと思う。

Back to reality
FineIt was the first time for us to go our farm since 31st Dec.
Mate, the animal fence was broken by deer. Why I know it was deer, I found its dung.
Strangely, deer seemed not to eat anything at my farm. Actually it is not the first time, it came in but ate nothing.
And a few lines of tunnel was blown away by the wind. We fixed them and watered them.
I have changed the way to water. I used to use water pipe but it takes more time and energy. Now I like to water by my hand. But I still need engine to pump up the water from creek.

大阪は素敵だ
晴れ
大阪を離れたくない。
外食うまい、酒もうまい、欲しいものがすぐに手に入る、サービスがいい、会話があっさりしてるしテンポがいい、歩いてる人がおしゃれだから飽きない、みんな若い、明るい、暖かい、夜が長い、ロックに合う。
日本橋の電気街にK2と言うレンタルCD屋があって、そこには10万枚のストックがある。相当珍しい音楽でもそこに行けば手に入る。10万枚の在庫と聞いてもピンと来ないと思うので行ってください、すごさが分かるから。

欲にはキリがないので、友達に会う、新しい音楽を手に入れる、焼肉を食べる、にしぼった。正解だったと思う。もちろん、会いたい友達はもっといるし、他にも欲しいもものはいくらでもある。それを言い出したらここを出て農業を始めた意味がない。

Tired in city
Last night, I slept in a set of thin futon, but it had been warm enough.
Wife and I left for Osaka city to breath the air of city. Take came to see us. He has been drinking and eating since end of year, so have we, so that our condition was bad. So that we thought we are sort of unwelcome visitors for him. However he welcomed us and spend long time with us, as same as when we lived in neighbourhood. Thank you, Take.
We went to usual yakiniku station and usual bars.
We all were tired because of the parties in these days. So that we said good by early for party tomorrow.
Hotel we had was low price and clean.

実家へ

大阪府枚方市に僕の実家があり、今日はそこに行く。僕のおばあちゃん、妹達もその家族も来る。
姪、甥の中にはまだ小さい子もいるのでお年玉では意味が分からんだろうから、途中トイザラスでその子達への簡単なプレゼントを探す。人が多いだけでなく、何に関心があって、何を与えて良くて悪くていいのか考えながら選ぶのが大変だった。結局妻がすべて選んでくれた。相当うまく選んだと思うがそれでも30分くらいかかった。
実家に着くとおばあちゃんが、毎年やるんだけれど、今年40歳の男に、知明ちゃんと言いながら抱いてくれる。おばあちゃんの中では僕はまだ小さいらしい。そのお陰で妻も僕を、知明ちゃん、と呼ぶようになった。
大正9年生まれだから、今年91才になる。おばあちゃんは全くややこしいことを言わない。足腰は弱くなっているが元気だ。ホントにいつまでも生きていて欲しい。会うとホッとする。
義理の弟が豪華な海鮮を彼の実家のある山口県から買ってきてくれたようで、例年に増して贅沢な正月料理だった。
姪・甥達も成長していた。
夜が寒くないのがおかしかった。

New years day
FineHappy new year.
New years day in here Ichijima was quiet.
Just before midnight, wife and I visited Sekizo-ji temple near masters village, and met master and his son.
Local people made a fire for visitors to keep them warm. We went saying hallo to something great in the temple and came back to fire and talked with local people.
Master invited us to his place to drink sake. Thank you master.
Had a short sleep at home. We started a party, as wife cooked a lot for new year. She does good every year.
New year in Ichijima was quite simple.
